Reverend Byron C. Crawford
About Our Pastor
About our Pastor…
Byron Courtney Crawford was born to Era B. (Lacy) and the
late Samuel L. Crawford on December 14, 1955 in St. Louis,
MO. He has a younger sister, Margo. He received his academic
diploma from Northwest High School in 1975 and following that
attended college at St. Louis University and Meramec
Community College. Byron was employed with the City of St.
Louis as a Nurses Aide and a Pharmacist Assistant from 1977
to 1979. In 1979 he joined the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as an
Office Clerk.
While attending St. Luke Memorial MB Church (St. Louis,
MO), under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jimmy L. Brown, in June
of 1987 Byron heard and responded to the Gospel, receiving
Christ as his Lord and Savior. After baptism in July 1987 he
became a member of St. Luke. He served St. Luke in numerous
capacities: a worker in the Kitchen Ministry, New Member
Orientation Assistant Teacher, and Deacon and in many others
ways as directed by his Pastor.
While serving as a Deacon, in May 1990, he accepted the call
to the Preaching Ministry. In June 1990, Pastor Brown gave
Rev. Crawford the certificate of license to preach the Gospel
and at St. Luke in June 1990, Rev. Crawford preached his first
sermon; “You Must Remove the Old & Put on the New.” His
zeal for teaching and preaching the Word of God flourished and
he attended Brookes Bible College and Missouri Baptist
College. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Christian
Behavior and Ministry and Associates Degree in Christian
Centered Counseling at the New World Bible Seminary in
1994. He supplied the pulpit at First Baptist Church of
Huntsville, Alabama for one and half years and Greater Bethany
Baptist Church (St. Louis, MO) for one year. For three and half
years Rev. Crawford taught the Armor Bearers bible study class
at Mt. Sinai MB Church (Rev. John Haynes).
Rev. Crawford wed his love, Shirley Ann (Brown) on January
23, 1992. They are the proud parents of Justin, Jared and
Jasmine. Since the 1980’s Byron has the pastime of riding
horses and has been the owner of numerous world champion
Tennessee Walking show horses and pleasure horses. His
current 2 horses are J.W. Tennessee Pride and Highball Blaze.
He also enjoys saddle building as a hobby.
In October 2000, Rev. Crawford was called as Pastor of the
Good News Baptist Church in Jennings, MO (established in
1988). He was ordained as a pastor on November 26, 2000 by
Pastor Brown. After 27 years of employment with the St. Louis
Post-Dispatch, in February 2005, Pastor Crawford retired from
the position of Circulation Customer Service Manager to serve
Good News in a full-time pastoral capacity. Since his arrival, the
church has experienced exponential growth in all areas. Pastor
Crawford continues to emphasize Worship, Love, Fellowship,
Ministry, Evangelism, and Discipleship. A few of the highlights
of the church under his leadership include the implementation of
Wednesday Night Prayer & Bible Study and numerous new
ministries.
Pastor Crawford believes his role as a pastor is to "preach,
teach, and pray to lead the people of God." The vision God has
given him is “that people will hear the preached Word and
accept Christ as their Savior and they will allow Christ to
change their lives.” One of the most gratifying experiences for
Pastor Crawford has been “to see what God can do for an
obedient servant and to see God’s work in rebuilding broken
lives.” Pastor Crawford desires that as we lift him up in prayer,
we ask God to “grant unto his ministry a greater anointing.”
