Our Church History
HISTORY OF GOOD NEWS BAPTIST CHURCH

The Body of Believers known as the Good News Missionary Baptist Church began
with holding worship services at the Meadows School in Moline Acres, MO. The
charter members were Robert and Darlene Lindsey, Lucille Stewart, Curtis and
Theresa Smith, James and Shirley Bills and Lorraine Buckner. Bro. Curtis Smith
served as the first Deacon of the Church and Bro. James Bills served as Deacon in
training. Serving as Interim Pastors were Rev. Robert Loggins, Rev. Jerry Hodges,
Rev. Larry Davis and Rev. Charles Fiddmont. Under the interim pastoral leadership of
Rev. Larry Davis, the Church received its Articles of Incorporation on February 27,
1979 from the State of Missouri. In 1988, Good News Missionary Baptist Church
received sponsorship by Calvary Baptist Church to become affiliated with the
Southern Baptist Convention.

As part of the Southern Baptist Convention, in 1988, the Church received honorary
recognition for ranking #7 in having the most baptisms as part of this association. In
1992, Rev. Joe Bonner was called to be the first Pastor of Good News. In the fall of
1992, Calvary Baptist Church moved from this location, 8850 Jennings Station Rd.
and Good News moved into the building. Along with the sanctuary the facility is a 3-
level structure with a fellowship hall, and several classrooms and offices. Rev. Joe
Bonner served as Pastor until 1995. Rev. Joseph Carrawell served as Pastor from
1995 to 1999. Rev. Charles Anderson served as Pastor for 3 months in 2000. Under
Rev. Joseph Carrawell, on January 21, 1999 an Articles of Incorporation was
received from the State of Missouri to change this Body of Believer’s legal name from
Good News Missionary Baptist Church to Good News Baptist Church.

DETERMINATION
The enemy tried to derail God's people. Due to the consistent turnovers in the pastoral
leadership, attendance dwindled to just a few. During difficult periods of trials,
disappointments, and discouragement a small group of members stayed faithful and
were determined that Good News would be a welcoming door to lost souls. With the
grace of God and the efforts, prayers and faithfulness of this small group of disciples,
the Church continued to roll on. God's grace led the Church through the difficult
periods, all resulting in bringing glory to God.

Rev. Byron C. Crawford received and accepted the call as Pastor in October 2000
and joined Good News with his wife, Shirley and children; Justin, Jared and Jasmine.
The calling of Rev. Byron C. Crawford to the pastorate ushered in a new era in the
Church's history.

MINISTRIES
The ministries of Good News have accelerated to a new level. The Church grew from
a few ministries to having 23 as of current. The following ministries were implemented
under Pastor Crawford: Christian Education, Prayer Warriors, Usher Ministry, Health
Unit, Youth Ministry, Fellowship Committee, Mother & Deaconess Board, Pastoral
Care Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Drama Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, New
Member Orientation, Praise Dance Ministry, Van Ministry, Recreation Ministry,
Sisters Who Care (WMU), Food Pantry, Scholarship Fund Ministry and the
Educational Tutoring Ministry. A new Deacon board was formed and trained and has
a faithful and dedicated membership of seven: Deacons Michael Holliday, Sr., James
Barnes, Sr., Brian Jones, Sr.,  Keith Brooks, Arstell Jones, Tommie Bills, and
(emeritus) James Bills. The Music Ministry was reorganized with the appointment of a
new Music Director and a new Percussionist, Pianist/Organist, and Guitarist. God has
richly blessed Good News and its ministry through the preaching and teaching of the
gospel. We have five, very committed, associate ministers: Rev. Leroy Campbell, Rev.
Cynthia Barnes, Rev. Juanita Jones, Rev. Eileen Norman and Rev. Dane Jones. All
associates ministers also serve in other capacities throughout the ministries of the
Church. The worship service was expanded to include Wednesday night Prayer
Meeting, Bible Study and Youth Ministry Fellowship and Thursday night Family
Development Bible Study.

PURCHASES
In 2001 Good News continued to add to the beauty and functionality of the Church
structure. New pulpit furniture and a Hammond organ were purchased and a sound
deck was built. A new refrigerator and freezer were added to the fellowship hall. In
2002, the vestibule and Pastor’s study were outfitted with new furnishings. In 2004, a
van was purchased and parking lot improvements included a blacktop. Many
necessities for the upkeep and beauty of the Church were purchased including: runners
and a cross set for the Lord’s Supper table, pew ropes and cushions, 2 new A/C
units, a drum set and bongos, and a TV for the Youth Ministry. In 2006, another van
was purchased and the fellowship hall was remodeled and unanimously agreed upon
by the Church leadership to rename it Crawford Hall.

MARCHING FORWARD
There are other activities and ministries that are being initiated and planned for the
future growth and ministry of Good News. We are experiencing the anointing and the
presence of the Holy Ghost and we have learned the significance of spiritual power,
prayer and praise.
